Rogue Core Falconer Advanced Guide: Team Drafting and Co-op Roles
Beyond the basics: the one-Falconer rule, support drafting discipline, your Threat Level 4-5 job, and the advanced mistakes even veteran Falconers make.
Combat Summary
The direct answer: advanced Falconer play is not about your build — it is about your draft discipline and your squad slot. The Falconer is S-tier in co-op and D-tier solo because it is a force multiplier: weak alone, devastating in a squad. Run exactly one Falconer per team (utility does not stack, so a second one wastes a slot), pass damage upgrades to your carries and take the team-wide and sustain options they cannot afford, and on Threat Levels 4-5 your job shifts from “help kill things” to “keep the squad alive through wave stacking.” If you have not read it, our basic Falconer guide covers weapons and build priorities; this guide covers everything after that.
Rule Zero: Exactly One Falconer
Community-tested: since the Update 2 difficulty rework, the co-op class consensus ranks Falconer first and solo last — the most lopsided class in the game. The corollary nobody follows: lobbies with two Falconers lose more than lobbies with one. Utility does not stack the way damage does. If you queue into a squad that already has a Falconer, switch — Slicer and Guardian are the self-contained classes that absorb a duplicate slot without waste. The full rankings are in our Co-op class tier list.
Drafting Like a Support
The upgrade draft is where advanced Falconers separate from beginners. Community-tested rules:
- Pass damage to carries. Enhancement pools are per-player, but draft picks are a shared decision — when a big damage upgrade appears, the Slicer takes it, not you. Your damage was never the win condition.
- Take what the team cannot. Team-wide buffs, sustain, and revive-adjacent utility have low value to a damage carry and enormous value in your hands. Our upgrade drafting guide covers the negotiation itself.
- Respect REP-D. Shared team upgrades through the REP-D system are your natural territory — read our REP-D guide and prioritize the options that scale the whole squad.
Your Threat Level 4-5 Job
On Threat Levels 1-3 you are a helpful accelerator. On 4-5, with wave stacking in play, you are the squad’s insurance policy. Community-tested: the Falconer’s value on high Threat Levels is measured in revives prevented, not damage dealt. Position for coverage, not kills; save your cooldowns for the wave-stack moments, not the opener. Our Threat Levels 4-5 survival guide is required reading before you queue high.
Pace Is a Team Decision
Official: Rogue Core’s three paces — Cautious, Standard, Reckless — change how the whole squad plays. Community-tested: the Falconer suffers most from pace mismatch, because your utility timing assumes a tempo. Talk pace before the run starts; our Assault Pace guide breaks down what each pace demands. And if you play with randoms, know the community’s open suggestion (Steam forums): lock Cautious to Depths 1-2 and Reckless to 3-4 so mixed-pace squads stop clashing — it is not official, but it tells you where the friction lives.
Who to Stand Next To
Falconer multiplies teammates, so teammate choice is build choice. Community-tested pairings: a Guardian frontline gives you the safe space your utility needs; a Spotter’s scouting turns your timing from reactive to proactive. Our Team Comps guide rates the full squad matrices — the short version is that Falconer plus any self-sufficient damage class is a complete core, and the fourth slot is flexible. For general squad play, our Co-op guide covers the fundamentals.
Advanced Mistakes
- Drafting like a carry. The moment you start competing for damage upgrades, you have stopped being a Falconer.
- Saving cooldowns too long. Support cooldowns rot faster than damage cooldowns — a cooldown used early that prevents real damage beats a held cooldown every time.
- Following the squad instead of anchoring it. Your positioning sets the team’s shape. If you are always reacting to where the Slicer went, the squad has no shape.
- Queueing Falconer into a Falconer lobby. See rule zero. Every time.
