Rogue Core Voidkin Dominator Guide: How to Kill It
How to kill the Voidkin Dominator in Rogue Core: its Rift projectiles, death explosion, and the positioning rules that keep you alive. Update 2 enemy guide.
Combat Summary
- Official: The Voidkin Dominator is a new Update 2 enemy — a tankier, long-range evolution of the Voidkin Drifter. Its projectiles leave lingering zones of volatile Rift energy, and it explodes when killed.
- Official: It belongs to the Corespawn faction and prefers to fight at range, unlike most of the swarm that rushes you.
- Guidance: Kill it at mid-to-long range, keep moving so the Rift zones never box you in, and never stand next to its corpse. Treat every Dominator as a zoning threat first and a damage target second. Everything below marked “guidance” is tactical advice, not official data.
What the Dominator Actually Does
The Dominator was added in the Update 2 patch (September 2, 2026) alongside the rest of the difficulty overhaul. Ghost Ship Games describes it as a heavier, longer-ranged cousin of the Voidkin Drifter — the flying Corespawn introduced back in Update 1. Where the Drifter harasses you up close, the Dominator hangs back and throws projectiles that seed the floor with volatile Rift energy. Those zones linger, which means the Dominator is really two threats: the enemy itself, and the terrain it ruins while you deal with it.
Then there is the death explosion. Killing a Dominator is not the end of the problem — its corpse detonates, punishing anyone who closed in for the finish. This is the single most common way players die to it: they chase the kill, the explosion catches them, and the run ends to an enemy that was already dead.
The Rift Zones: Why Positioning Beats DPS
Rift energy also changed in Update 2 — Rifts now spawn and follow per wave rather than behaving as before — so the battlefield is already more dynamic than it used to be. The Dominator’s lingering zones stack on top of that. The practical rule is simple:
- Never fight a Dominator in a corner or a dead-end cavern. You need somewhere to go when the floor fills up.
- Kill it while moving laterally. Strafe across its line of fire instead of backing straight up; straight retreats walk you into zones you already dodged.
- Clear the small enemies first if you can. Grunts body-blocking you inside a Rift zone is how full-health runs end.
On higher Threat Levels, where enemy aggression and projectile speed both scale up, the zones become harder to sidestep and the margin for standing in them shrinks to nearly nothing. At Threat Level 4 and above, treat every Rift zone as lethal ground rather than an inconvenience.
How to Kill It
Guidance — pick your range. Mid-to-long range weapons are the comfortable answer: you stay outside the explosion radius and have time to react to projectiles. Shotguns and other close-range options can work, but only if you commit to the kill and immediately dash out before the detonation. If your build has no ranged option at all, let a teammate take the Dominator while you handle the swarm — feeding it a close-range Reclaimer is worse than ignoring it for thirty seconds.
Guidance — burst it, don’t tickle it. The Dominator is explicitly tankier than the Drifter. Chipping at it from across the room gives it time to fill the arena with Rift zones. When you engage, engage with intent: damage upgrades, weak-point hits, and focused fire end the fight before the terrain becomes unplayable.
Guidance — watch the corpse. The explosion has a short delay. The moment the Dominator dies, move. Do not loot, do not finish off a nearby grunt, do not admire your work. Move first.
Loadout Notes
Guidance: Mobility upgrades pull double duty in Dominator fights — they dodge projectiles and reposition you out of Rift zones. Anything that boosts dash distance or reduces its cooldown is worth more here than a small damage bump. Radiation and elemental effects from the Update 2 Expenite pool are solid general picks, but no specific upgrade is required; positioning does most of the work.
Guidance for co-op: Call out Dominator spawns the moment you see one. A Dominator that the whole team focuses dies in seconds; a Dominator that one player tries to solo while everyone else mines becomes a ten-minute terrain hazard. Focus fire is the entire strategy.
