Rogue Core Living Roadmap Explained: What Is Coming Before 1.0

Ghost Ship's Early Access Living Roadmap lays out everything still coming to Rogue Core before 1.0: a 4th Gatekeeper, Depth 4, new weapons, more enemy factions, and ammo tuning. Here's what each item actually means.

Rogue Core Living Roadmap Explained: What Is Coming Before 1.0

Combat Summary

  • Official: Ghost Ship published a revised Early Access Living Roadmap on May 22, 2026 — a priority-ordered list of what’s still coming to Rogue Core, with no hard dates attached.
  • Official: Confirmed roadmap items include a 4th Gatekeeper boss (in development), Depth 4 (locked until that boss is ready), more weapons, more bosses, expanded enemy factions, and continued ammo economy tuning.
  • Official: Update 3 is targeted for late October / early November 2026 — targeted, not locked — and Depth 4 arrives with it or after, not before.
  • Estimate: Early Access is estimated at 18–24 months from the May 2026 launch, which puts 1.0 roughly in late 2027 to mid-2028. That window is our math, not an official date.
  • The short answer: If you’re wondering whether to start playing now or wait — the roadmap says the game’s skeleton is done and the next year is about filling it in: bosses, biomes, weapons, and balance. Nothing on the list suggests a systems overhaul that would make today’s progress obsolete.

Ghost Ship does roadmaps differently from most Early Access studios. Instead of a dated feature calendar, Rogue Core’s Living Roadmap is a priority-ordered list: items at the top get built first, and dates only get attached when something is actually close. That means reading the roadmap is about reading order, not a timeline — and the order tells you exactly where the developers think the game is thinnest right now.

What’s Confirmed on the Roadmap

Everything below comes from the official May 22 revised roadmap and subsequent official announcements. We’ve marked each item with its status as of October 2026.

4th Gatekeeper boss — in development (official). The single most concrete roadmap item. Rogue Core launched with three Gatekeepers, and Ghost Ship has confirmed a fourth is being built. This is the boss teased in the September 29 Update 3 sneak peek at The Big Break Showcase — but note the studio has published no name for it, so treat any “leaked boss names” on forums as fiction.

Depth 4 — locked until the 4th Gatekeeper is ready (official). Since Update 2, each Gatekeeper has its own biome on its Depth, and Depth 4’s tooltip literally reads “coming in Update 3.” The roadmap logic is clean: no 4th boss, no 4th Depth. Our Depth 4 guide tracks everything confirmed about it.

More weapons (official). Update 1 added the Trident and Corrosive Sludge Pump; Update 2 added the LOK-1 Smart Rifle. The roadmap keeps “more weapons” as an open item with no specific count or names — Ghost Ship announces weapons when they’re close, not before.

Expanded enemy factions (official). Rogue Core launched with three enemy factions — Corespawn, Rafkan, and Shatterclaw. Update 1 added the Voidkin Drifter and Update 2 the Voidkin Dominator (both Corespawn), but the roadmap still lists faction expansion as open work. New factions, not just new units, are the goal.

Ammo economy tuning (official). Of the three big launch complaints — mission timer, shared upgrades, ammo shortages — the timer and upgrades were solved by Update 1 (Assault Pace, then Threat Levels; the R.E.P.D. and negotiation reworks). Ammo is the one the roadmap still lists as open: partially tuned across Updates 1–2, still being worked on.

No new Reclaimer classes confirmed (official). Worth stating plainly because it’s a common forum rumor: the current roadmap has no new classes on it. The five launch Reclaimers are the roster for the foreseeable future.

What “Priority-Ordered, No Hard Dates” Means for You

The roadmap’s format is the message. Ghost Ship will not promise “Depth 4 in March” — they’ll say Depth 4 follows the 4th Gatekeeper, and the 4th Gatekeeper ships when it’s ready. For players, the practical read is:

  • Update 3 (targeted late Oct / early Nov 2026) is the next milestone, built around the new boss. Our Update 3 release date tracker has everything confirmed so far.
  • Between major updates, expect patches in the RC:EA:02.0x series — the pattern since launch has been a big update followed by two to three hotfix patches.
  • 1.0 is not on the roadmap yet. No 1.0 prep phase, no feature-freeze talk. At 18–24 months of EA from May 2026, 1.0 lands roughly late 2027 to mid-2028 — our estimate, and the studio hasn’t disputed that shape in interviews.

Community-tested read: the Early Access cadence so far — Update 1 in June, 1.2 in July, Update 2 in September, Update 3 targeted October/November — is roughly one meaningful update every 6–8 weeks. If that pace holds, expect 6–8 more content updates before 1.0.

Should You Wait for 1.0?

The roadmap answers this better than any review can. Nothing on it is a systems rework — no class overhauls, no progression wipes announced, no “we’re rebuilding the core loop.” It’s additive: more bosses, more biomes, more weapons, more factions, better ammo balance. Your unlocks, your learned boss patterns, your favorite builds — none of that is on the chopping block.

The one reason to wait would be Depth 4, and that’s a content addition, not a fix. If the current three-Depth loop already hooks you, the roadmap says: play now, and Update 3 plus everything after it is more of what you like, not a different game.
