Coming Back to Rogue Core for Update 3? Start Here

Combat Summary

  • Rogue Core launched in Early Access on May 20, 2026. If you left around launch, the game has changed enormously across Updates 1, 1.2, and 2.
  • The biggest change: difficulty is now 5 Threat Levels, and Depth is purely content progression — they are separate dials since Update 2.
  • Update 3 is targeted for the end of October 2026, with a new boss teaser and Depth 4 expected.
  • You do not need to grind anything to be ready: Alpha Clearance is now automatic and disconnects no longer wipe your XP.

Left before the summer? This page catches you up on every update that matters, in the order they landed.

Update 1 (June 17): The “Big Three” Fixes

Update 1 answered the three loudest launch complaints:

  • Assault Pace selection (Cautious / Standard / Reckless) — you now choose your time pressure from the mission map instead of fighting one mandatory timer.
  • R.E.P.D. upgrade rework — any Reclaimer can activate an upgrade once enough Expenite is banked, and the whole squad receives it at once. Upgrade griefing is dead.
  • Upgrade Negotiation rework — picks are replaced with fresh options so everyone drafts fairly; health upgrades joined the normal pool.
  • Also new: the Trident energy shotgun and Corrosive Sludge Pump heavy weapon, the flying Voidkin Drifter enemy, and a new Core biome.

Update 1.2 (July 9): Beefier Bosses, Disconnect Insurance

  • Gatekeeper counterattacks: every boss now actively relieves pressure on itself and can temporarily block your attacks. Boss health scaling was re-tuned for longer 5- and 6-stage missions.
  • Risk Vector rework: enemy-adding vectors now hit noticeably harder, and stacking them has real consequences.
  • Reaperworm escalation: roughly 30 seconds after the first worms appear, more spawn over time — get on the elevator.
  • Disconnect insurance: crashes, disconnects, and kicks now preserve the XP and bonuses you earned. This alone makes coming back less punishing.

Update 2 (September 2): The Difficulty Overhaul

The update that reshaped the game:

  • Threat Levels: 5 difficulty tiers scaling enemy count, swarm frequency, HP, movement, aggression, attack frequency, projectile speed, and damage. Depth no longer affects difficulty — it is a content tree.
  • Wave stacking on TL4–5: overlapping waves, previously a bug, are now the official endgame ceiling.
  • No more boss invulnerability phases. Damage-triggered invuln is gone; bosses use short blocks or blockable attacks.
  • 7 new elemental Expenite upgrades, the Nuclear Optics artifact, and 4 new Alterations: High Stakes, Siege Engines, Headhunter, and Death Mitosis.
  • The LOK-1 Smart Rifle joined the standard weapon pool, and the Voidkin Dominator joined the enemy roster.
  • Ungated server list: join missions at Depths you have not unlocked yet (hosting still requires the unlock), with Threat Level filtering added in a later hotfix.

If you learn one thing before Update 3, make it the Threat Level system — it is the foundation everything else now builds on.

Update 3 (Targeted: End of October 2026)

Officially confirmed so far: a new boss (teaser shown September 29, no name announced) and the long-awaited Depth 4 (its tooltip changed to “coming in Update 3” during Update 2 testing). The Experimental Branch is already testing Update 3 systems, including enemies dropping Expenite as a default mechanic — controversial and not guaranteed to ship as-is.

Ghost Ship Games has announced no exact launch day. “Targeted for end of October” is the official wording; treat any specific date as unconfirmed.

Your First Session Back

  1. Run a TL2 mission to shake off the rust — the timer, upgrade, and difficulty systems all work differently now.
  2. Read the Threat Levels guide before pushing difficulty.
  3. Try the server browser’s Threat Level filter to find squads at your pace.
  4. Do not worry about “catching up” on progression — Alpha Clearance is automatic, and nothing from the old systems gates the new content.

Verification status: Official (Steam patch notes for Updates 1, 1.2, 2; “Update 3 sneak peek just dropped,” Sept 29, 2026). Updated October 1, 2026.
