TIER: A 2026/10/3 Speculation

Rogue Core Depth 4: Everything We Know (New Gatekeeper and Biome)

Depth 4 is Rogue Core's locked fourth tier. Here is every confirmed detail: the new Gatekeeper boss in development, the new biome, the Update 3 release window, and how to prepare.

Rogue Core Depth 4: Everything We Know (New Gatekeeper and Biome)

Combat Summary

  • Depth 4 is Rogue Core’s next locked progression tier. It is not playable yet.
  • Ghost Ship Games has confirmed a fourth Gatekeeper boss is in development, and Depth 4 stays locked until that boss is ready.
  • Since Update 2, the in-game Depth 4 tooltip reads “coming in Update 3” — the first official link between Depth 4 and the next major update.
  • Update 3 is targeted for late October / early November 2026. That is a target window, not a locked release date.

If you are wondering when Depth 4 unlocks and what is inside it, here is the short version: a brand-new Gatekeeper boss fight and a brand-new biome to fight it in, most likely arriving with Update 3. Everything below separates confirmed facts from educated guesses, and the guesses are labeled.

What Depth 4 Is (Confirmed)

Since Update 2, Depth is purely a content progression tree — it no longer affects difficulty. Difficulty is controlled separately by Threat Levels 1–5. Each Depth is a set of missions that ends in a Gatekeeper boss fight, and since Update 2 each of the three existing Gatekeepers has its own biome on its Depth (Molaktula finally got its own home turf in that patch).

Depth 4 is the fourth rung of that ladder. Right now it is visible but locked, and the game itself tells you why: the tooltip changed in Update 2 to say it is coming in Update 3.

The Fourth Gatekeeper: What We Know (Confirmed)

  • A 4th Gatekeeper boss is confirmed in development (per the Early Access Living Roadmap roundup, updated September 2026).
  • Depth 4 is locked until that boss is ready — the boss and the Depth ship together.
  • The boss’s name has not been revealed. Any name you see floating around forums is a guess, not a fact.
  • On September 29, Ghost Ship teased a new boss coming in Update 3 at The Big Break Showcase. Whether that teased boss IS the 4th Gatekeeper or something else has not been confirmed — that part is speculation (see below).

What we can say with confidence: Gatekeeper fights changed fundamentally in Update 1.2. Every Gatekeeper now uses counterattacks that relieve pressure on itself and can briefly block player attacks, and Update 2 removed damage-triggered invulnerability phases entirely. Whatever the 4th Gatekeeper is, it will be built on this modern boss design — sustained, well-timed damage beats burst-and-wait.

The New Biome: What to Expect (Pattern-Based)

No official details about the Depth 4 biome exist yet. But the pattern is consistent: every Depth has a distinct visual identity and enemy mix, and Update 2’s rework gave each Gatekeeper its own dedicated biome. Expect Depth 4 to follow suit — a new environment built around the new boss’s mechanics, with its own hazards and enemy composition. Which enemy faction it draws from (Corespawn, Rafkan, Shatterclaw, or something new) is unknown; expanding enemy factions beyond the launch three is still an open roadmap item.

Release Window: Targeted, Not Locked

Update 3 is targeted for late October / early November 2026, per Ghost Ship’s September 29 announcement. Read that carefully: targeted. The studio has not locked a date, and Early Access roadmaps slip. The first batch of work-in-progress Update 3 features is already playable on the Experimental branch (Discord-gated), which is usually a good sign that the update is on track — but “on track” and “guaranteed” are different things.

How to Prepare for Depth 4

You cannot grind Depth 4 early, but you can arrive ready:

  1. Get comfortable on Threat Levels 3–4. New endgame content is tuned around the current difficulty ceiling, and TL4–5 wave stacking is the hardest combat in the game right now.
  2. Practice Gatekeeper fundamentals. Counterattacks punish greedy burst damage. Learn to read boss tells, keep sustained pressure, and save your big cooldowns for real openings.
  3. Build one boss-killer and one crowd-control loadout. Depth 4 will demand both: a single-target setup for the Gatekeeper and wave-clear tools for whatever the new biome throws at you.
  4. Do not stockpile Expenite. It is a per-run economy — nothing carries between runs.

Speculation (Labeled)

Will Depth 4 definitely launch with Update 3? The in-game tooltip is the strongest evidence we have, and tooltips are written by the developers. But there is a real chance Depth 4 slips to a later patch if the 4th Gatekeeper needs more time — the roadmap explicitly says Depth 4 stays locked until the boss is ready, and bosses are the hardest content to finish. Our read: Update 3 is the likely vehicle, but treat “coming in Update 3” as the plan, not a promise.

Is the teased Update 3 boss the 4th Gatekeeper? It would be the cleanest explanation — one new boss, one new Depth, one update. But Ghost Ship teased “a new boss,” not “the Depth 4 Gatekeeper.” Until they say it outright, keep both possibilities open.
