Rogue Core Boss Changes in Update 2: No More Invulnerability Phases

Update 2 removed damage-triggered boss invulnerability in Rogue Core. Learn what replaced it, plus the Update 1.2 counterattacks that still punish greed.

Rogue Core Boss Changes in Update 2: No More Invulnerability Phases

Combat Summary

  • Official: Update 2 removed damage-triggered boss invulnerability phases. Bosses now use short blocks or blockable attacks instead.
  • Official: Update 1.2 gave every Gatekeeper counterattacks that relieve pressure and can temporarily block player attacks.
  • Tactical read: Fights are now about rhythm — bait the counter, punish the recovery — instead of waiting out immunity windows.

Gatekeeper fights feel completely different than they did at launch. Two updates rewrote the rules; here is the current boss meta.

What Update 2 Changed

No more invulnerability phases (official). Previously, dealing enough damage triggered boss immunity windows that forced your whole squad to stop shooting. Those are gone. In their place, bosses use short blocks or blockable attacks — defensive responses you can play around rather than wait through. The practical effect: sustained DPS is viable again, and burst windows matter more.

What Update 1.2 Changed (Still Active)

Counterattacks (official). Every Gatekeeper has counterattacks that reduce pressure on themselves while pressuring Reclaimers — including the ability to temporarily block some or all player attacks. This is the mechanic that punishes greed. The counter to a counter is patience: bait it out, dodge, then dump damage into the recovery.

Health re-tuning (official). Boss health scaling was adjusted to keep pace with player power on 5- and 6-stage missions, so long missions do not turn the finale into a damage sponge.

Risk Vector assists (official). Enemy-adding Risk Vectors now feed spawns into the boss’s enemy pool during Gatekeeper fights — and the rework gave them real teeth. Assign add-clear duty before the pull, not during it.

How to Fight Gatekeepers Now

  • Learn the counterattack tells. Each boss telegraphs its counters. The first phase of every new Gatekeeper fight is reconnaissance — watch, do not greed.
  • Coordinate burst, not spam. With no invuln phases, the winning pattern is: bait counter → dodge → full squad burst → reposition for adds. Random chip damage just feeds the boss’s tempo.
  • Do not clump. Update 1.2 specifically tuned bosses to punish stacked-up squads. Spread, crossfire, and keep revive lanes open.
  • Bring add clear. Risk Vectors feeding the arena means the boss never fights alone for long.

Looking Ahead

A fourth Gatekeeper is confirmed in development for Update 3’s Depth 4, alongside the brand-new boss teased on September 29. The no-invulnerability design is presumably the template — learn the rhythm now.
