Rogue Core Update 2 Expenite Upgrades: All 7 Elemental Picks
All 7 new elemental Expenite upgrades in Rogue Core Update 2 — Spark-Booster, Grid-Shock, Frostbane and more — and which ones to draft first.
Combat Summary
- Official: Update 2 added seven elemental Expenite upgrades: Spark-Booster, Grid-Shock, Weathering Blast, Icy Shrapnel, Icicle Strike, Concussive Shot, and Frostbane.
- Official: Any Reclaimer can activate an Expenite upgrade once the team has enough Expenite, and every player receives it at the same time. Upgrade costs now scale upward past the soft cap instead of hitting a hard stop.
- Guidance: Draft order depends on your weapons — chain-lightning effects favor fast-firing guns, frost effects favor crowd control. The breakdown below groups all seven by element and ranks them by general usefulness. Exact stat values are not published officially; check them in-game. Everything marked “guidance” is tactical advice, not official data.
How Expenite Upgrades Work Now
Two official facts shape every decision below. First, from the Update 1 rework: once the team banks enough Expenite, any Reclaimer can trigger the upgrade, and everyone gets it simultaneously no matter where they are on the map. There is no upgrade-griefing and no “wrong” person spending the pool — the only real decision is which upgrade to take and when.
Second, from Update 2: the old cost cap is gone, replaced with scaling costs past the soft cap. Translation: Expenite upgrades stay relevant deep into long runs instead of topping out, but each successive pick costs more, so early picks should be the ones with the widest impact. Draft the generically strong upgrades first; save the situational ones for when the scaling cost still feels worth it.
The Seven Upgrades, by Element (Guidance)
Electric: Spark-Booster and Grid-Shock. The names say it all — these are the chain-lightning pair. Guidance: they scale with hit frequency, which makes them the natural partners for fast-firing weapons and anything with strong lock-on uptime like the LOK-1 Smart Rifle. If your build already puts a lot of projectiles downrange, these two multiply that volume into area damage. Draft them early when the team leans into rapid-fire weapons.
Frost: Icy Shrapnel, Icicle Strike, and Frostbane. The frost trio, and arguably the strongest group of the seven for general play. Guidance: slowing and freezing effects are crowd control, and crowd control is survival — especially on Threat Levels 4 and 5 where stacked waves punish immobile builds. Frostbane is the headline pick of the trio for most loadouts; the other two are excellent support picks when you want the whole team layered in slows.
Blast: Weathering Blast and Concussive Shot. The concussive pair, built around impact and disruption rather than damage-over-time. Guidance: these shine in corridor fights and swarm events where knockback and stagger interrupt enemy pressure. They are the most situational of the seven — devastating in the right arena layout, merely fine in open caverns. Draft them when the mission’s terrain favors chokepoints.
Draft Priority: A Simple Order (Guidance)
When the upgrade draft offers you a choice and you have no strong weapon synergy either way, this order is a safe default:
- Frostbane — the most broadly useful single pick; slows win runs.
- Spark-Booster or Grid-Shock — whichever appears first, if anyone on the team runs a fast-firing weapon.
- Icy Shrapnel / Icicle Strike — stack the frost theme once Frostbane is in.
- Weathering Blast / Concussive Shot — take when the terrain or the swarm density favors them.
This is a default, not a law. A full rapid-fire squad should take the electric pair over everything; a team already drowning in slows gets less from a third frost pick than from its first blast upgrade. Read the draft, read your team, then decide.
Spending Discipline
Official: costs scale past the soft cap, so the pool never truly “finishes.” Guidance: that makes pacing your spending the real skill. Dumping the whole pool on the first three drafts feels powerful and leaves you priced out of the late picks that could have covered your weaknesses. A good rhythm: one high-impact pick early, then hold enough in reserve that the next draft is always affordable. And remember the Update 1 rule — anyone can trigger, everyone benefits — so talk about the draft instead of racing to click it.
