Rogue Core Alterations Guide: All Four New Run Modifiers
Update 2 added four Alterations to Rogue Core: High Stakes, Siege Engines, Headhunter, and Death Mitosis. Learn what each does and when to pick it.
Combat Summary
- Official: Update 2 added four new Alterations: High Stakes, Siege Engines, Headhunter, and Death Mitosis.
- Official: Headhunter removes Expenite veins entirely — all enemies drop Expenite instead, plus one guaranteed Artifact.
- Official: A September 10 hotfix made Expenite drop amounts from the Enemies Drop Expenite alteration consistent across Threat Levels and team sizes.
Alterations are run modifiers that twist the rules of an expedition. Update 2’s four new ones each demand a different playstyle. Pick the one your squad is actually built for.
The Four New Alterations
High Stakes (official). Better RNG luck, less Expenite. Take this when your build is one good drop away from coming online and you trust your fundamentals to carry a leaner economy. Do not take it if your squad relies on buying its way out of trouble at the R.E.P.D.
Siege Engines (official). Enemies move at half speed but have double HP. This is a crowd-control paradise and a DPS check at the same time: kiting gets easy, killing gets slow. Bring damage, not mobility, and watch the mission clock — slow kills on a timer is how runs die.
Headhunter (official). No Expenite veins spawn; every enemy drops Expenite, and you get one guaranteed Artifact. This flips the economy from mining to hunting — aggressive squads that clear fast will feast, while slow methodical teams will starve. Note the September 10 hotfix: drop amounts are now consistent across Threat Levels and team sizes, after solo low-difficulty runs were getting almost nothing.
Death Mitosis (official). Corespawn split into two “baby zombies” on death, but enemies have less HP. Total HP per pack arguably goes up while individual targets melt. Bring cleave, area damage, and anything that punishes density — this alteration is a swarm comp’s dream and a single-target build’s nightmare.
Which Alteration Should You Pick
- Learning a new Depth: None. Learn the baseline first.
- Confident slayers: Headhunter — the guaranteed Artifact alone is worth it if your clear speed is real.
- CC-heavy squad: Death Mitosis turns your crowd control into a score multiplier.
- Gambling on a powerspike: High Stakes, but only if the team agrees to play lean.
- Slow and steady: Siege Engines rewards patience and positioning over twitch aim.
Patch Notes
All four launched with Update 2 (September 2, 2026). September 10 hotfix: Enemies Drop Expenite amounts normalized. The experimental branch is separately testing enemies dropping Expenite as a core feature — if that ships, Headhunter’s identity gets interesting.
Verification status: official Update 2 patch notes + September 10 hotfix. Updated September 30, 2026.
