Reaperworms in Rogue Core: How the Escalating Spawns Work

Reaperworms escalate the longer you take in Rogue Core since Update 1.2. Learn the spawn timer, how player count affects it, and how to beat the clock.

Reaperworms in Rogue Core: How the Escalating Spawns Work

Combat Summary

  • Official: Since Update 1.2, roughly 30 seconds after the first Reaperworms appear, additional worms spawn over time — and the rate scales with player count.
  • Official: The design intent is explicit: stronger pressure to get on the elevator.
  • Tactical read: Reaperworm phases are a DPS-and-movement check, not a fight to win. Clear a lane, keep moving, extract.

Reaperworms are Rogue Core’s enforcers of pace: the longer you linger, the worse it gets. Update 1.2 turned them from a warning into a countdown.

How the Escalation Works

Per the official Update 1.2 breakdown: about 30 seconds after the first Reaperworms show up, more worms begin spawning over time, with the spawn rate scaling to player count. A full four-dwarf squad faces a much steeper escalation curve than a solo Reclaimer. There is no “stable” worm phase anymore — the situation strictly deteriorates until you extract.

Why They Exist

Reaperworms are the answer to turtling. Combined with the mission timer debate that led to Assault Pace selection (Update 1) and the Threat Levels system (Update 2), Ghost Ship Games has consistently pushed back against slow, risk-free play. The worms are the stick: dawdle, and the run comes to collect.

How to Beat the Clock

  • Decide your extract timing early. The moment worms appear, the team should already know whether this is a “one more vein” or “elevator now” situation. Debating during escalation is how squads wipe.
  • Clear a lane, do not clear the room. You cannot out-kill an escalating spawn. Crowd control and movement tools beat DPS here — open a path and keep it open.
  • Solo players: respect the slower curve, not zero curve. The rate scales with player count, which favors solo — but “slower” is not “safe.” Solo Reclaimers have no one to revive them if a worm catches them mid-greed.
  • High Threat Levels compound everything. On TL4–5 with wave stacking, worm escalation lands on top of already stacked waves. Plan shorter, sharper objective phases.

Common Mistakes

  • “One more vein” syndrome. The most common worm death in the game. Set the call before the worms arrive.
  • Fighting the worms. They are a timer with teeth, not a boss. Every second spent killing worms is a second the escalation spends compounding.
  • Splitting up during extraction. Regroup before the elevator phase. A lone dwarf caught by a fresh worm wave is a lost run.
