Driller Promotions Explained: Reaching Legendary Rank
Understand how Driller promotions work in Deep Rock Galactic, including how to reach legendary ranks. Maximize your character's potential and unlock new content.
Combat Summary
- Promoting your Driller unlocks new assignment tiers and important account-wide perks, crucial for high-hazard missions.
- Each Promotion resets your class level but significantly increases your overall Player Rank and awards a new prestige border for your chosen class.
- Reaching Legendary Rank for a class signifies true mastery and opens access to exclusive cosmetic rewards and further challenge tiers.
Promotions are not just cosmetic; they are a fundamental part of Character Progression in Deep Rock Galactic. Ignoring them leaves valuable tactical advantages and mission opportunities on the table. Understanding the system is key to maximizing your Driller’s effectiveness and showing your fellow Miners you’re a seasoned veteran.
Promotion Mechanics Explained
To promote your Driller, you must first reach character level 25. Once there, navigate to the Promotion Terminal on the Space Rig. Each promotion requires a payment in Credits, specific minerals (like Nitra, Gold, Croppa, etc.), and sometimes a blank Matrix Core or a completed machine event core. Successful promotion will reset your character’s level back to 1, allowing you to re-earn Perk Points and experience, but your Player Rank will increase, and a new prestige star or border will be added to your Driller’s portrait.
Why Promote Your Driller
Promotions offer concrete tactical benefits and unlock critical content:
- New Assignments: Each promotion tier unlocks harder assignment chains, leading to more challenging and rewarding missions.
- Deep Dives & Elite Deep Dives: Essential for obtaining Overclocks, these weekly challenges are only accessible after your first Promotion.
- Overclock Forging: Promoting a class makes that class eligible to receive blank Matrix Cores from weekly core hunts and Deep Dives, which are then used to forge weapon and gear Overclocks.
- Perk Points: Every time your class levels up (even after a promotion reset), you earn Perk Points, vital for unlocking and upgrading your active and passive perks.
- Cosmetic Rewards: Alongside the prestige borders, some promotions grant unique armor, headwear, or paint jobs.
Reaching Legendary Rank
Reaching Legendary Rank is the ultimate demonstration of your commitment to a class. This isn’t a single promotion but a series of them, each adding a new star or symbol to your class icon. The highest tiers of prestige often feature intricate golden or platinum borders, signifying you’ve promoted your Driller dozens of times. While the specific number for what constitutes ‘legendary’ can be subjective among Miners, the visual progression on your class icon and in the terminal clearly displays your dedication. It’s a badge of honor, signaling to new recruits that they’re mining with a true Greybeard.
