Driller C4 Tactics: Swarmer & Scrabbler Control
The Driller's Satchel Charge offers highly efficient crowd control against Glyphid Swarmers and Scrabblers. Learn optimal C4 placement and timing to clear small hordes.
Combat Summary
The Driller’s Satchel Charge, often called C4, is an incredibly efficient tool for immediate Swarmer Control and clearing dense packs of Glyphid Scrabblers. Using one well-placed Satchel Charge can instantly eliminate an entire swarm, saving ammunition on primary weapons. Optimize placement by targeting choke points or tightly bunched groups to maximize the area of effect and ensure complete annihilation. While seemingly overkill, this specific application of C4 for Crowd Control is a tactical advantage, conserving precious primary ammo for larger threats.
Best Use Case
Deploy the Satchel Charge when Glyphid Swarmers or Scrabblers are overwhelming a position, blocking escape routes, or when your team is low on primary ammunition. A single detonation can clear a path or protect a downed teammate faster than any other weapon against these specific targets. It’s particularly effective in confined spaces where enemies are forced into a tight cluster.
Optimal Placement & Timing
Wait for the swarm to gather. Swarmers and Scrabblers often move in predictable patterns. Place the C4 directly into their path or where they are densest. Detonate as they converge on the charge. Avoid throwing it too far ahead; you want them to be within the blast radius at the moment of explosion. For maximum efficiency, one charge is usually enough for a significant swarm. Remember, the goal is to prevent the swarm from spreading or reaching your team, not to chase individual stragglers.
Recommended Loadout Notes
While no specific C4 modifications are strictly required for effective swarmer clear, considering the “Volatile Compound” upgrade for increased blast radius can make targeting easier, especially if swarmers are spread out. The base Satchel Charge is already potent enough. Focus primary weapon mods on single-target damage or sustained fire for larger Glyphids, knowing your C4 handles the small stuff.
Common Mistakes
- Wasting Charges: Don’t use C4 on just a few individual swarmers. Save it for proper swarms of 8-10+ enemies.
- Poor Placement: Detonating too early or too far from the swarm will result in partial clears, wasting the charge.
- Ignoring Teammates: Always be aware of your fellow Miners before detonating. Friendly fire from C4 is lethal. Announce your C4 use, especially in tight tunnels.
When To Avoid It
Do not use C4 for swarmers if your team is already managing them easily with area-of-effect primaries or secondaries. Similarly, if your mission frequently features Bulk Detonators or other high-HP threats requiring precise C4 placement, conserve your charges for those targets. Prioritize larger enemies and objectives before resorting to C4 for minor nuisances.
