Master tactical revives in Deep Rock Galactic by prioritizing swarm clearing and strategic positioning. Knowing when and how to approach downed teammates saves missions.

DRG Tactical Revives: Swarm Clearing for Downed Teammates

Combat Summary

  • Clear Immediate Threats: Before attempting a revive, always prioritize eliminating the most dangerous enemies surrounding your downed comrade. A clear landing zone saves lives.
  • Create Space: Utilize mobility tools, crowd control, or defensive abilities to carve out a safe pocket. Gunner shields and Driller tunnels are invaluable for isolating the revive target.
  • Communicate and Coordinate: Announce your intention to revive and call out remaining threats. Teamplay is paramount to success in these high-stakes moments.

When a fellow Miner drops, especially in a maelstrom of Glyphids during an Elite Deep Dive, a rush to revive is natural. However, blind heroism often leads to a second downed dwarf. The key to successful Tactical Revives is calculated aggression: secure the area, then secure the revive. This guide ensures you return to the Rig, alive and with all limbs attached.

Best Use Case

This intel is critical for any high-hazard mission, particularly on Hazard 4, Hazard 5, or Deep Dives where enemy density and damage are punishing. It applies whenever a teammate is downed amidst a large swarm or surrounded by high-threat targets like Praetorians, Wardens, or Spitball Infectors. Your objective isn’t just to revive, but to ensure the revived Miner doesn’t immediately go down again.

Mission Tactics

  1. Assess the Threat: Before moving, quickly scan the enemies near the downed dwarf. Is it a dense group of Grunts? A few Acid Spitters? A Praetorian? Prioritize targets that can quickly re-down a revived dwarf or significantly damage you during the revive animation.
  2. Clear a Path: Use your weapons and utility tools to thin out the immediate vicinity. For Gunners, a well-placed Shield Generator can instantly clear a pocket. Drillers can tunnel to the downed Miner, providing cover. Engineers can deploy turrets or platforms for elevation and cover. Scouts should use their grapple to quickly get in and out, or kite enemies away.
  3. Use Crowd Control (CC): Freezing, stunning, or fear effects are excellent for creating windows of opportunity. Driller’s Cryo Cannon is ideal for this, as is the Engineer’s PGL with stun. These effects buy precious seconds for the revive.
  4. Manage Swarm Flow: Don’t just kill, control. Direct the Swarm Management away from the downed Miner. If you can draw fire and lead enemies on a chase, your path to revival becomes clearer.

Common Mistakes

  • Rushing In: The biggest mistake is blindly running to a downed Miner without clearing threats. You become an easy target and often get downed yourself, compounding the problem.
  • Ignoring Ranged Threats: While melee enemies are often the most immediate concern, ranged enemies can quickly snipe you or the revived dwarf. Prioritize them if they have line of sight.
  • Leaving Minimal HP Dwarves: If you successfully revive but leave the area crawling with enemies, the revived Miner is highly likely to be downed again instantly. Ensure they have a moment to breathe, heal, or find cover.

Class-Specific Tips

  • Gunner: Your Shield Generator is the ultimate Tactical Revives tool. Drop it directly on the downed dwarf to create an impenetrable sphere for the revive. Use your high sustained damage to clear anything outside it.
  • Driller: Your drills can bypass entire swarms. Tunnel directly to the downed Miner, providing both cover and a quick escape route. Your Cryo Cannon excels at stunning and freezing enemies for easy revives.
  • Engineer: Place sentry turrets to cover your approach and provide suppressing fire. Platforms can create elevated revive spots, pulling some enemies out of melee range, or act as temporary barriers.
  • Scout: Your Grappling Hook allows for unparalleled speed. You can zip in, revive, and zip out before most enemies can react. Use your flares to properly illuminate the chaotic scene to better identify threats and escape routes. Your speed also makes you ideal for kiting enemies away from a downed teammate, buying time for another Miner to perform the revive.
