Deep Rock Galactic: Surviving Knockouts and Reviving Teammates

Prevent losing objectives and team wipes by understanding knockdown mechanics. Learn how to survive critical damage and tactically revive fallen teammates in Deep Rock Galactic.

Deep Rock Galactic: Surviving Knockouts and Reviving Teammates

Combat Summary

  • Going down cripples team output and often spirals into a full team wipe. Prevent this by proactively managing your health and shields.
  • Prioritize swift evasion and cover to avoid critical damage that leads to a knockout. Don’t be a hero in the open.
  • Always clear immediate threats around a downed Miner before attempting a revive; a dead rescuer helps no one.

Preventing Knockouts

Staying on your feet is paramount. It’s not just about surviving; it’s about maintaining firepower and map control. Focus on these Survival Tactics:

  1. Shield Management: Your shield is your first line of defense. Always be aware of its status. Retreat to allow it to recharge, especially when engaging high-threat enemies or managing swarms. Perks like Shield Link can also provide a critical boost.
  2. Positional Awareness: Never fight with your back to an unknown area. Use terrain for cover, establish choke points, and maintain clear escape routes. Getting cornered is a death sentence.
  3. Threat Prioritization: Identify and eliminate the most dangerous threats first. Oppressors, Praetorians, Mactera, and anything with ranged attacks or high burst damage should be your primary targets to prevent taking critical hits.
  4. Evasive Maneuvers: Use your class mobility tools (Grappling Hook, Dash, Zipline, Drills) to escape dangerous situations or reposition quickly when health drops low. A moving target is harder to hit.

Tactical Revives

When a Miner goes down, the urge to revive immediately is strong, but a botched rescue often creates two downed Dwarves. Employ these Revive Mechanics for success:

  1. Clear the Immediate Area: Before even thinking about a revive, secure the ground around your fallen comrade. Eliminate any Glyphids or other threats that could attack you or the just-revived Miner.
  2. Create an Opening: Gunners can deploy a Shield Generator. Engineers can set up turrets or platform-shield the revive zone. Scouts can clear flyers and lure ground enemies away. Drillers can tunnel a safe path.
  3. Utilize Perks: Field Medic can drastically speed up a revive, often providing a small shield for the revived Miner. Iron Will is a last-resort, but invaluable for getting a critical revive off or clearing a path for one.

When the Team Goes Down

Situations spiral quickly. When multiple Miners are down, Team Play becomes crucial. Identify who’s still standing and their capabilities.

  • The Lone Wolf Scenario: If you’re the last Miner standing, your objective is to get someone back up. Use all available tools to create an opening. If you have Iron Will, this is often the moment to use it – sprint to a downed teammate, revive, and immediately get Nitra for a resupply to regain health.
  • Prioritize Vital Roles: If possible, revive a class that can quickly clear threats or provide immediate defense, such as a Gunner for a shield or an Engineer for area denial.
  • Regroup and Re-establish: Once one or two Miners are back up, don’t rush into combat. Regroup, restock if needed, and re-establish Hazard Management before continuing.

Common Mistakes

  • Tunnel Vision on Revives: Focusing solely on picking up a teammate while ignoring incoming damage often leads to you joining them on the ground.
  • Ignoring Shield/Health: Don’t let your health dip too low without seeking cover or a supply drop. Proactive healing prevents reactive downs.
  • Bad Positioning: Standing in the open or directly in a swarm’s path is an invitation to get knocked out.
  • Wasting Iron Will: Using Iron Will without a clear path to a revive or a Nitra deposit to avoid re-downing yourself is a rookie error. Plan its use.
