Deep Rock Galactic Molly Stuck: How to Resolve Pathing Issues

Molly's pathfinding can sometimes lead her into trouble, getting stuck on terrain or supply pods. Learn how to clear her path and ensure smooth mission extraction.

Deep Rock Galactic Molly Stuck: How to Resolve Pathing Issues

Combat Summary

  • Clear the Path: Use pickaxes, drills, or explosives to remove obstacles directly in Molly’s immediate path, especially around critical choke points or supply pods.
  • Relocate Obstacles: If a supply pod or drilldozer is blocking Molly’s route, you may need to wait for it to move or complete its task before she can proceed.
  • Exercise Patience: Sometimes Molly just needs a moment to recalculate her Pathfinding. Wait a short while before assuming she’s truly stuck.

Management’s bots aren’t always perfect. If you’ve spent any significant time on Hoxxes, you’ve seen Molly get herself into some truly baffling situations. Whether she’s on top of a supply pod, wedged in a tight tunnel, or just staring blankly at a wall, a stuck Molly means a stalled mission and delayed Extraction. Knowing how to handle these situations is crucial for efficient operations.

Why Molly Gets Stuck

Molly’s Pathfinding algorithm prioritizes direct routes but can struggle with dynamic terrain generation, especially after heavy digging or explosive use. Common culprits include:

  • Player-Created Terrain: Tunnels dug too narrow, supply pods landing directly in her path, or complex drilldozer trenches.
  • Environmental Obstacles: Large crystals, unbreakable terrain features, or even other Dwarves can sometimes disorient her.
  • Collision Bugs: Less common, but sometimes a genuine DRG Glitches can cause her to clip into geometry or get stuck without an obvious obstruction.

How to Clear Molly’s Path

When Molly is stuck, your priority is to open a clear route to her next objective. This requires active Mission Tactics:

  • Widen Tunnels: If she’s in a narrow passage, have your Driller widen it. Engineers can platform over gaps, and Scouts can grapple to get an angle to clear a path from above.
  • Remove Debris: Any loose rock, plant matter, or small environmental objects around her should be cleared with your pickaxe.
  • Explosive Solutions: Sometimes a well-placed grenade or C4 charge (with team permission!) can clear a significant obstruction quickly. Use this as a last resort due to potential friendly fire and resource cost.
  • Patience and Proximity: Sometimes simply standing near Molly or moving a short distance away can trigger her path recalculation. Don’t crowd her.

Prevention Tips

Proactive measures can minimize instances of a stuck Molly:

  • Dig Smart: When making tunnels, ensure they are wide enough for Molly to easily pass, roughly 2x2 pickaxe swings is a good minimum.
  • Supply Pod Placement: When calling down supply pods, try to drop them in open areas or away from your primary Extraction routes. Molly will walk over them, but getting stuck on top is a known issue if the terrain around it is uneven or restricted.
  • Clear the Drop Pod Area: Before calling the Drop Pod, quickly clear any significant terrain directly between your team and the expected landing zone, especially if you foresee a close call with a large swarm.

When It’s Not Your Fault

While many stuck situations can be resolved with good Mission Tactics, some are genuine DRG Glitches that are out of your control. If Molly is truly unresponsive, hovering inexplicably, or stuck in seemingly clear terrain after all attempts to clear her path, it might be a bug. In these rare cases, all you can do is report it and wait. Management will eventually send a new one, probably.
