Welcome, Recruit. This isn’t your average solo expedition; Deep Rock Galactic demands teamwork and tactical thinking from the start. This Beginner Guide compiles crucial Miner Tips to ensure you not only survive but thrive in the perilous caverns. Learn the ropes, avoid common pitfalls, and become a valuable asset to your team.
Essential First Steps
Before you worry about Overclocks or advanced builds, focus on the fundamentals. Learn how your basic weapons function, how to navigate the caves, and most importantly, how to work with your fellow Dwarves. Understanding Teamwork is your primary weapon. Experiment with all four classes to find your fit and understand their unique contributions to the mission.
Mission Tactics
Never forget your primary objective. While hunting for minerals is part of the job, the main mission goal always takes precedence. Use your terrain tools – Driller’s drills, Engineer’s platforms, Scout’s grapple, Gunner’s shield – to quickly reach objectives or create defensive positions. Efficient Hazard Management means knowing when to push and when to fall back. Ping important minerals, enemies, and objectives (default V key on PC) to keep your team informed.
Common Mistakes
The gravest error a new Miner can make is straying too far from the team. A lone Dwarf is a dead Dwarf. Other pitfalls include neglecting to call resupplies, wasting valuable ammo on small swarms, and not utilizing your class’s unique mobility or defensive tools. Learn to conserve resources and coordinate your efforts. Don’t double-dip on resupply pods unless absolutely necessary and cleared by the team.
Miner’s Chatter
The veteran Miners on the comms channel emphasize a few points: “Ping everything – it helps the whole team.” Many advised trying all four Class Roles early on to understand their strengths and weaknesses, which in turn makes you a better teammate regardless of who you play. A recurring piece of advice: “Don’t be afraid to ask questions; we were all greenbeards once.” Movement, especially as the Scout, was highlighted as a key skill to master early. Focus on learning the game before chasing the highest Hazard levels.
