Best Expenite Upgrades to Buy First in Rogue Core

Update 2 added seven elemental Expenite upgrades to Rogue Core. Learn how the R.E.P.D. rework changed buying and which upgrades to prioritize first.

Best Expenite Upgrades to Buy First in Rogue Core

Combat Summary

  • Official: Update 2 added seven elemental Expenite upgrades: Spark-Booster, Grid-Shock, Weathering Blast, Icy Shrapnel, Icicle Strike, Concussive Shot, Frostbane.
  • Official: Since the Update 1 R.E.P.D. rework, any Reclaimer can activate an upgrade once there is enough Expenite — and all players receive it simultaneously.
  • Guidance: Prioritize economy and build-enabling picks early, damage second. Rankings below are tactical guidance, not official stats.

Expenite is the fuel of every run, and the R.E.P.D. is where it becomes power. Buying well matters more than mining fast.

How Buying Works Now

Two reworks changed the game. First, the Update 1 R.E.P.D. rework: any Reclaimer can trigger an upgrade purchase once the team has banked enough Expenite, and every player gets the upgrade at the same time, wherever they are. No more upgrade-griefing, no more “I was across the map.”

Second, the negotiation rework: when a player picks an upgrade, it is replaced with a fresh option so everyone gets equal choices. “Skip for Health” is gone — health upgrades now appear in the normal pool — and all drafts share the same rarity, so the draft is fair.

Third, Update 2 replaced the old cost cap with +100 scaling cost past the soft cap. Stacking one upgrade forever gets expensive — diversify.

The Seven New Elemental Upgrades

Update 2’s headline additions are all elemental: Spark-Booster, Grid-Shock, Weathering Blast, Icy Shrapnel, Icicle Strike, Concussive Shot, Frostbane. Ghost Ship Games is clearly pushing elemental builds as a core archetype. If your weapon applies or benefits from elemental procs, these are your first look.

What to Buy First

  • Early run: economy and consistency. Picks that smooth your Expenite income or fix your weapon’s biggest weakness beat raw damage. A rifle that cannot hit fliers does not need +10% damage — it needs a solution.
  • Mid run: commit to the elemental plan. Once you have two or more elemental pieces, lean in. Elemental synergies compound; a half-elemental build is the worst of both worlds.
  • Late run: damage and scaling. With the +100 post-cap scaling, your fifth copy of anything is a luxury. Spend late Expenite on new effects, not bigger numbers on old ones.
  • Always: health when offered. Health upgrades live in the normal pool now. A dead Reclaimer deals zero DPS.

Common Mistakes

  • Hoarding Expenite. Unspent Expenite is potential damage sitting in a vault. The rework made buying frictionless — use it.
  • One player deciding everything. The draft is shared and fair by design. Talk through picks; the team that drafts together survives together.
  • Forcing a build the run does not support. If the drafts offer nothing for your plan, pivot. Stubbornness is the most expensive upgrade.
