Rogue Core Engineer: Stop Core Spawn Crawlers in Corruption
Engineers can completely prevent Core Spawn Crawlers from leaving their spawn points in Core Stone Corruption missions. This tactic denies enemy swarms before they even emerge, securing the objective.
Combat Summary
- An Engineer can prevent Core Spawn Crawlers from emerging by placing Area Denial tools directly on their spawn points.
- Targeted placement of proximity mines, plasma bursters, or turret fire prevents these enemies from ever becoming a threat during Core Stone Corruption missions.
- This strategy saves ammo, reduces team pressure, and significantly streamlines objectives in Rogue Core.
Management isn’t going to tell you this, but we’ve found a way to stop those miserable Core Spawn Crawlers before they even twitch. During Rogue Core expeditions with the Core Stone Corruption modifier, an Engineer can shut down enemy spawns directly. Instead of fighting endless waves, choke the source.
Best Use Case
This tactic is invaluable in any Rogue Core operation featuring Core Stone Corruption. Core Spawn Crawlers can quickly overwhelm a team, especially in tight tunnels or during objective defenses. By preemptively sealing off spawn points, the Engineer eliminates a constant threat, freeing up the team to focus on other targets or primary objectives. It’s a prime example of effective Area Denial Tactics.
Mission Tactics
Identify where the Core Spawn Crawlers are emerging. These usually manifest as glowing, pulsing nodes in the terrain. Once located, an Engineer can use the following methods:
- Proximity Mines: Place 1-2 mines directly on the spawn point. The moment a Crawler tries to emerge, the mine detonates, often destroying the entire spawn wave. Replenish as needed.
- Plasma Burster Grenades: A well-aimed plasma burster can cover a spawn point in damage, preventing emergence. This is more reactive but effective for unexpected spawns.
- Turret Placement: Deploy your turret(s) to overlook known spawn points. While less direct than mines, consistent turret fire can keep emerging Core Spawn Crawlers suppressed or eliminated before they properly form. Position turrets to provide covering fire for multiple points where possible.
Communicate with your team to protect the Engineer while they set up these crucial defensive positions. Denying the enemy at the source is always more efficient than reacting to a full swarm.
Common Mistakes
- Ignoring the Spawns: Allowing Core Spawn Crawlers to multiply is a quick way to get overwhelmed. Prioritize shutting them down.
- Improper Placement: Mines or turrets placed too far from the actual spawn point may not trigger or have line of sight, allowing Crawlers to escape. Get close and place your tools precisely.
- Forgetting Resupply: Sustaining this Area Denial requires consistent ammo. Ensure you’re calling for resupplies and managing your resources.
When To Avoid It
This tactic is almost always beneficial. The only scenario where you might delay immediate application is if your team is under extreme immediate pressure from other, higher-priority threats (e.g., a Bulk Detonator or an Opressor directly on top of you). In such cases, address the immediate danger, then quickly return to sealing off Core Spawn Crawlers.
