The Mactera Trawler is a stealthy aerial threat, infamous for appearing out of nowhere and snatching an unsuspecting Miner. One second you’re mining, the next you’re being dragged into a swarm or a chasm. This Enemy Guide details how to shut down its grab and ensure your Survival Tips.
Understanding the Threat
These Mactera have low health but prioritize single targets, rapidly closing distance to snare a Miner with their claws. Their primary danger isn’t direct damage, but rather repositioning you into dangerous situations – off a cliff, into a swarm, or far from your team. Their high-speed approach and quick grab make them a top priority threat.
Counter Tactics
Prioritize Immediate Focus Fire: The best defense is a good offense. As soon as a Mactera Trawler is spotted, everyone capable should target it. Its health pool is small, making it quick to dispatch with concentrated fire. Gunners and Engineers excel at this with their high-DPS weapons.
Environmental Awareness: Always be conscious of your surroundings. Are there bottomless pits nearby? Dense enemy swarms? Trawlers will exploit these features, dragging you into the worst possible spot. Keep moving and maintain line of sight with your team.
Escape Maneuvers
Teamwork is Key: If a Trawler grabs you, immediately ping it and call for help. A quick shot from a teammate will often release you before serious damage or repositioning occurs. Gunners can use their shield as a last resort to break a grab and block incoming fire.
Pickaxe Power Attack: This is your personal escape button. A single pickaxe power attack will instantly break a Trawler’s grab. Make sure it’s off cooldown for critical moments.
Perks and Abilities: The Dash perk is invaluable; activating it while grabbed will also break the hold and give you a burst of speed to escape danger. Driller’s drills can sometimes break the hold, and Scout’s grapple can be used post-break to regain position quickly.
Prevention & Positioning
Stick Together: The Mactera Trawler thrives on isolation. By staying within a reasonable distance of your teammates, you make yourself a much harder target and ensure quick support if you do get grabbed. This is fundamental for good Hazard Management in any mission.
Clear High Ground: Before engaging large swarms, have your Scout or Engineer clear any ledges or ceilings where Trawlers might be lurking. Eliminating potential ambush points beforehand saves lives.
When To Avoid It
There’s no good time to avoid engaging a Mactera Trawler. Ignoring it for even a moment can lead to a downed teammate or a cascade failure in a critical engagement. Always prioritize taking them out as soon as they are identified.
