Deep Rock Galactic Swarm Survival Tips
Mastering Swarm Survival is critical on Hoxxes. Prioritize kiting, focused fire on high-threat targets, and strategic use of team utility to avoid being overrun.
Combat Summary
Getting swarmed on Hoxxes is a death sentence if you don’t have a plan. These Swarm Survival tips will keep your boots on the ground and your pickaxe swinging:
- Stay Mobile: Never get boxed in. Use terrain and kiting routes to control enemy flow.
- Prioritize Threats: Eliminate high-damage and crowd-controlling enemies first to reduce pressure.
- Leverage Team Utility: Combine class abilities for maximum area denial and damage during peak swarm intensity.
On Hazard 5 and above, getting caught flat-footed means certain death. These Tactics are universal across all operations, whether in Deep Rock Galactic or when navigating the anomalies of Rogue Core expeditions.
Positioning is Key
Always have an escape route. High ground offers significant advantages, forcing Glyphids to funnel up ramps or cliffs, making them easier targets. Avoid fighting in open, flat areas where enemies can surround you quickly. Create choke points with your team or use environmental hazards to your advantage.
Target Prioritization
In a massive swarm, you can’t shoot everything. Focus fire on the most dangerous threats first: Praetorians, Oppressors, and especially Mactera. Grunts and Swarmers can be handled with area-of-effect (AoE) weapons or by kiting. If a team member is down, clearing threats around them before a revive is crucial.
Team Utility and Comms
Effective Teamplay separates the veterans from the greenbeards. Gunners should deploy their Shield Generators to create safe zones for revives or reloads. Engineers need to establish defensive perimeters with turrets and platforms. Drillers can carve tunnels for escape routes or use their flamer/cryo cannon for crowd control. Scouts must focus on high-priority targets and safely grab critical Nitra for resupplies. Call out special enemies and coordinate your movements.
Common Mistakes
Miners often make the mistake of standing their ground too long against overwhelming numbers, especially when out of ammo. Pushing too far ahead of the team, ignoring the minimap, and forgetting to manage your Nitra reserves are also common missteps that lead to failure. Never underestimate the importance of kiting and knowing when to retreat to a better position.
Miner’s Chatter
The community consistently emphasizes staying mobile and using the environment. Many veterans suggest always having a ‘back to the wall’ to prevent being surrounded and using verticality to funnel enemies. The consensus is clear: don’t commit to a prolonged fight in a bad position. Retreat, regroup, and conquer.
