Play Daily Word online
Daily Word is a daily word-guessing game: one hidden 5-letter word, 6 guesses, new puzzle every day.
Type a word, press Enter, and read the tiles — green locks letters in place, yellow marks wanderers, gray clears the noise.
The on-screen keyboard remembers the best hint each letter ever earned, so no clue is ever lost.
Daily mode tracks your played, won, streaks, and guess distribution in your browser. Practice mode gives unlimited random words.
One word a day keeps the dictionary away.
How to control Daily Word
- Type letters A-Z / tap on-screen keys
- Enter: submit guess
- Backspace: delete letter
- D: daily mode, P: practice mode, M: mute
How to play
- 1
A hidden 5-letter word is picked. In Daily mode it's the same word for everyone each day; in Practice mode it's random.
- 2
Type any 5 letters and press Enter (or tap the on-screen keys).
- 3
Each guess is scored: green = right letter, right spot; yellow = in the word, wrong spot; gray = not there (or already fully claimed).
- 4
Solve the word within 6 guesses to win. Your streak, wins, and guess distribution are saved in your browser.
- 5
Daily mode gives one puzzle per day; Practice mode is unlimited and doesn't affect your streak.
Tips for a better run
Start with two letter-hunting guesses that share no letters — cover 10 different letters fast.
A green tile is a confirmed anchor: keep it fixed and rearrange around it.
A yellow letter wants a fresh slot — don't put it back where it was yellow.
Gray doesn't always mean absent — it can mean the letter was already fully claimed by earlier greens/yellows.
Hard-mode habit: reuse confirmed greens instead of re-testing grayed-out letters.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play?
Type any 5-letter word and press Enter (or tap the on-screen keys). Each guess is scored: green = right letter in the right spot, yellow = in the word but misplaced, gray = not in the word. You get 6 guesses in Daily mode.
Why did a repeated letter turn gray?
A letter can appear twice in the answer and once in your guess (or vice versa). Feedback is matched left to right: greens are locked in first, then yellows only for letters the answer still has left. A gray tile does not always mean the letter is absent — it may just be used up by an earlier green or yellow.
Is the daily word the same for everyone?
Everyone gets the same word each UTC day, picked deterministically from a curated list of common English words. Practice mode uses a random word each round.
What is the difference between Daily and Practice?
Daily mode gives you one puzzle per day. Practice mode gives unlimited random words with the same rules, and its results don't touch your daily streak.
