Play Shelf Sort online
Shelf Sort is a calm little organizing puzzle: you are the new stock clerk at a neighborhood general store, and the night shift mixed up every shelf. Tap two items to swap them (or drag one onto the other) and sort each shelf row so it holds exactly one kind of goods — cupcakes with cupcakes, apples with apples. Every swap costs one move, so plan before you shuffle. Three shifts to clear: a 4x4 starter shelf, a 5x5 busy aisle, and a 6x6 warehouse wall.
How to control Shelf Sort
- Tap an item, then tap another item to swap them
- Or press, drag, and release from one item to another to swap
- R: restart the current level

Tips for a better run
Work one row at a time: pick a row and trade its misfits into their home rows.
Swapping two misfits that both go to each other's rows fixes two spots in one move.
Moves are limited, so avoid shuffling items you already sorted.
Every level is guaranteed solvable — a solved shelf was scrambled, so there is always a way back.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shelf Sort a copy of an existing sorting game?
No. Shelf Sort is fully original: the stock-clerk premise, the shelf visuals, the swap-to-sort rules, the level layouts, and all code, art, and audio are original works. It takes the general shelf-sorting genre as inspiration but references no real-world brands, places, or existing games.
How do I swap items?
Tap an item to select it, then tap a second item to swap the two. You can also press on one item, drag to another, and release. Each swap costs 1 move.
What counts as a finished row?
A row is finished when every item in it is the same kind — for example, a whole row of cupcakes. Finished rows glow so you can see your progress.
Is there a time limit?
No timer. The only pressure is the move budget shown at the top. Sort carefully and you can take as long as you like.
Can a level be impossible?
Never. Each level starts from a perfectly sorted shelf and is shuffled with random swaps, so there is always a sequence of swaps that restores it.
