⚔️ Combat Summary

  • Solo Engineer operations against the Caretaker on Hoxxes IV’s Lethal missions demand precise preparation and aggressive, constant movement.
  • Secure your defensive positions, deploy turrets strategically, and utilize high-impact Overclocks to survive and dismantle the target.

Management expects you to solo Haz 5? Fine. But don’t expect a walk in the park. This isn’t about ‘builds’ as much as it is about raw grit and tactical execution. Your life depends on it.

General Solo Survival Principles

Keep moving. Standing still is death. Prioritize Red Sugar for quick recovery. Play fast and aggressively, but stay aware of your surroundings.

Engineer Loadout – Caretaker Specifics

  • Primary Weapon: The Lok-1 Smart Rifle with the Explosive Chemical Rounds Overclock is highly recommended. It offers sustained damage and localized area effect, crucial for both the Caretaker and its supporting swarms. Forget the shotgun; its range is too limited against a target like the Caretaker.
  • Secondary Weapon: The Plasma Burster Grenade Launcher (PGL) with the Fat Boy Overclock delivers massive burst damage. Aim for the top facet of the Caretaker to simultaneously damage multiple corners during its spinning phase.
  • Turrets: Always deploy dual turrets. Set them for directional aiming to focus fire. Two smaller turrets provide better Crowd Control and widespread coverage than a single, larger unit. They’re essential for drawing agro and thinning out Glyphids.
  • Grenades: Shredder Swarms offer excellent localized Crowd Control and create valuable distractions for overwhelming swarms.

Caretaker Engagement Strategy

Pre-Fight Preparation

Before you even think about activating the Caretaker, secure the arena. Carve out defensive cover on all four sides using platforms and your pickaxe. Create multiple safe zones, and call in resupply pods in these secure locations. You will need them to manage your Nitra effectively.

Hacking Pod Defense

Exploit the terrain. Dig a deep hole, place the hacking pod inside, and cover it with a platform. Ensure the antenna clears the platform. This makes the pod virtually indestructible while maintaining connection. Positioning the first transmitter ball directly above the pod simplifies the setup.

Target Prioritization

While the Caretaker is your primary objective, always prioritize its support systems: its arms, patrol bots, and turrets. They will overwhelm you if ignored. You have enough ammo for a methodical approach. Systematically dismantle these threats before focusing concentrated fire on the Caretaker’s core.

🗣️ Miner’s Chatter

Listen up. While a solo Engineer run on Haz 5 is a commendable effort, most Miners agree: public lobbies offer a smoother experience for those new or lacking in Overclocks. Bosco’s good, but a full Team makes hacking and the Caretaker fight significantly easier. Defending a single point solo on Haz 5 is pure hell for any class. The core message is clear: your playstyle and constant movement trump any specific build. Prioritize getting to Red Sugar and keep your boots moving.
