Play Timber Tap online
Timber Tap is an original one-button lumberjack arcade game: you play Pip, felling a tall pine 120 chops at a time.
Every tap chops from the left or right side of the trunk. Branches stick out at random - chop the branch side and you lose a life and get stunned.
Daylight is always draining; each chop buys back 0.45 seconds. Golden segments pay a +50 bonus, and fast safe chops build a score combo.
Best clear time and best score are saved in your browser, with WebAudio synth sounds and mouse, touch and keyboard controls.
How to control Timber Tap
- Chop left: tap/click left half of screen, or press Left arrow / A
- Chop right: tap/click right half of screen, or press Right arrow / D
- R: restart the run
- M: mute audio
How to play
- 1
Tap the left or right half of the screen to chop from that side (or use arrow keys / A D).
- 2
Do not chop the side with a branch at Pip's level - a hit costs 1 of 3 lives and stuns you for 0.6s.
- 3
Daylight drains constantly; every chop adds 0.45s back (max 30s).
- 4
Golden segments give +50 bonus; consecutive safe chops build a score combo.
- 5
Fell all 120 segments to win. Lose 3 lives or run out of daylight and the run ends.
Tips for a better run
Watch the bottom segment only - that is where the next branch check happens, not the top of the tree.
Rhythm beats speed: steady chops every 0.3-0.4s keep daylight topped up without mis-taps.
Golden segments are worth +50 - prioritize them when both sides look safe.
After a branch hit you are stunned for 0.6s; do not mash during the stun or you will chop the wrong side.
Branch density rises as you climb - the last 30 chops need full attention.
Frequently asked questions
Is Timber Tap a copy of an existing lumberjack game?
No. Timber Tap takes only the general one-button lumberjack arcade genre (chop the safe side of a tree, dodge branches) as inspiration. The character Pip, the daylight-timer rules, the 120-chop win condition, the canvas art and the WebAudio sounds are all original work created for this game.
How do I chop without hitting a branch?
Tap / click the LEFT or RIGHT half of the screen (or press Left/Right arrows or A/D) to chop from that side. Never chop the side where a branch sticks out at Pip's level - a branch hit costs one of your 3 lives and stuns you.
How do I win?
Fell the tree: land 120 safe chops. Each chop adds daylight (+0.45s) but daylight constantly drains - chop fast or the sun sets. Lose all 3 lives to branches, or run out of daylight, and the run ends.
